Just like she did at Jamaica's Jazz and Blues Festival this year, Mariah Carey angered fans in Israel when she delivered her debut performance in the country earlier this week.
Only this time the Israeli fans weren't bothered by lip-syncing as the Jazz and Blues fans were, but by Carey's late arrival which was an hour behind schedule.
Sources close to the singer told Thats Up When the singer, who is currently dating Australian billionaire James Packer, took to the stage at the Rishon Lezion Live Park Amphitheatre in Tel Aviv, the infuriated crowd that had been waiting in the sweltering heat for Carey's arrival, threw disapproving words at the singer.
The crowd was further infuriated when Carey stopped her debut performance to call out members of the audience who were smoking.
“Whoever is smoking, please don’t smoke ... Smoke whatever else you want, but tobacco kills my voice,” said Carey who fans say relied heavily on her background vocalists to deliver most of her songs.
The singer also got a lot of bad press from media in Israel. One internet news media site Jerusalem post wrote:
"In the hour-and-a-half show she had four costume changes: one ill-fitting, heavily bedazzled dress after the other – hardly appropriate for the sweltering humidity that pervaded the air in Rishon’s Live Park arena."
Mariah Carey displayed similar behaviour in Jamaica earlier this year when she performed for fans at Jazz and Blues Festival. Fans had similar complaints about regular costume changes and lip-syncing by Carey.
